Joann Hopp Obituary
Joann M. Hopp, 61, of Chicago passed away on August 2. Joann was born, attended school, and lived most of her life in Chicago, earning a bachelor's degree in Spanish and Portuguese, and a master's degree in Linguistics. Her love of world languages and cultures took her to Brazil, Spain, Portugal, Israel, the West Bank, Austria, and other countries. An interest in serving others led her to spend four years with the Peace Corps in Central America, and to her most recent profession, which was teaching at an alternative high school. Joann enjoyed the arts, was a Lyric Opera subscriber, and sang with the SSSF Chicago Area Singers. She was the beloved daughter of Jacob and Helen, dear sister of James (Denise), John (Miriam Krasno), and Janice Presco (Albert), loving aunt of David (Stacy) and Eric, fond great-aunt of Kalifa, and cherished friend of many. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Rainbow Hospice at 1550 Bishop Court, Mount Prospect, Illinois. Memorial mass will be held on Wednesday, August 7, at 10 AM at St. John Berchmans, 2517 W. Logan Boulevard, Chicago, Illinois. Visitation will be on Tuesday, August 6, from 3-9 PM at Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home, 6150 N. Cicero Avenue. Interment will be private.
