Christopher Land Rhodes, 38; Editor for Law and Linguistics, University of Chicago Press; former Acquisitions Editor at the American Library Association; B.A. w/General Honors in Anthropology, University of Chicago, M.L.S, University of Illinois; passed away peacefully, September 8, 2015, after a short battle with glioblastoma multiforme. Chris had many passions, from gaming (Magic: The Gathering) to sports (IndyCar racing, Bears, Colts, Bulls); from books (fiction and nonfiction) to a diverse range of music; politics to philosophy. He was an accomplished French horn, ultimate Frisbee, and foosball player. Above all, he cherished his family and friends. Native of Evansville, Indiana, formerly of New Harmony and Athens, OH. Survived by wife Nanette Perez, son Avery Perez Rhodes (4), and parents Ralph "Skip" Rhodes and Catherine Land Rhodes. Brother of Andrew "Tiger" Land (Megan Eliason) Rhodes, uncle of Max and Julia; nephew of Roger (Katherine) Land, Daniel (Judy) Land, and Terry (Mary) Rhodes; cousin of Ted (Melanie), Michael (Lisa), Jennifer, and Jessica Land; and Catherine (Mauricio Germon-Roche), and Meghan Rhodes; son-in-law of Benjamin and Nicasia Perez. Survived by the Turkal, Perez, Fernandez, and Rivera families (including nieces and nephews Abiah, Daniel, Jonathan, Michael, and Unna); the Hendu; and the "Worthless" Posse. Preceded in death by grandparents, Julius and Martha Land and Ralph and Eleanor Rhodes, uncle David Land, and aunt Barbara Land. Celebration of Life, 2pm, Sunday, September 13, Waud Family Garden, Midwest Palliative and Hospice CareCenter 2050 Claire Ct, Glenview, IL 60025.
