David F. Goldberg, a lifelong Chicagoan, died peacefully at his home in Naples, FL on October 5, 2016 at the age of 85. Founder and Chairman of Burling Bank for the past 27 years and longtime leader in the futures and options industry, Dave was a revered figure on LaSalle Street and mentored hundreds of traders over the course of his professional life. In 1969, Dave and his brother Bob established Goldberg Brothers, a trading and clearing firm that grew to include a stable of thousands of traders from San Francisco to London. Upon the successful sale of his firm in 1988, Dave founded Burling Bank, a boutique banking business located in the landmark Chicago Board of Trade building. Dave was born in Chicago the son of Florence (Keenan) and David Goldberg. He attended Sullivan High School and University of Illinois before serving in the US Coast Guard. He is survived by his loving family, including his wife Linda, his brother Robert (Kathy), four children: Catherine Busch (Michael), Andrew (Molly), Julie Unruh (Jeremy), Elizabeth Powell (Jeffrey), and fourteen grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 4th at 10am at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Glenview followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to Loyola Academy in Wilmette, IL or Catholic Charities of Chicago.
