BARRY ALBERT Obituary

BARRY DEAN ALBERT Barry Dean Albert, 79, of Chico, CA, passed away peacefully at 9:45 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 23, 2012, after a recent cancer diagnosis. He was born April 3, 1933 to Leonard and Myrtle Albert in Webster City, Iowa. He and his younger brother, Jack were raised in Webster City, where Barry developed his love of sports, competing in basketball, football, and track. After graduating from Lincoln High School in 1951, he completed his AA degree at Webster City Community College. He then served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War between 1953-55. He completed his college degree in Political Science graduating, via correspondence, from the University of Iowa in 1962. After his military service, he settled in San Diego, working at San Diego Trust Bank. He met and married Carol Schneider of Pittsburgh, PA in 1960. After the births of their four daughters in San Diego, they moved to Chico in 1967. Barry worked as the Classified Personnel Director for the Chico Unified School District for 25 years, before retiring in 1992. Always a true sports fan, one of his great joys was watching his four girls compete in various sports through junior high and high school. Barry was involved with many Chico organizations and enjoyed spending time with friends, playing golf, poker, and bridge. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife on many SIRS trips and vacations. He never missed a high school class reunion in Iowa, most recently attending his 60th reunion. He is survived by his wife, Carol and their four daughters and spouses: Diane and Mike Hernandez, Liz and Scarlet Rhoads-Albert, Teresa and Pat Clements, Jennifer and Steve Martini; and nine grandchildren. A celebration of his life will be held Friday, Nov. 30, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at the Newton-Bracewell Chapel, 680 Camellia Way. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to Autism LifeSpan, a program of the local Little Red Hen non-profit at 14555 Cameron Park, Chico, CA 95973. Barry was such a nice person. I know he and my brother Michael, Barry's son in law had a strong bond. I always enjoyed seeing Barry in Santa Rosa when he visited Mike and Diane and my wonderful nieces there. He will be missed.
