MARY KATHERYN JOHNSON On June 30th, 2018 we lost a lovely woman of God. With treasured friends and family, she celebrated her 90th birthday in October. Mary Katheryn Johnson was born on October 1st, 1927 in Lawrence, Kansas to Virgil and Edythe Daniels. She was a graduate of Orland High School's class of 1946. She married her high school sweetheart, Darrell Russell Johnson on August 16th, 1946. An inspiration to all, they were married 64 years! She worked for Musco Olive Company for many years. Her sense of fashion led her to open a clothing store, Kay's Kountry Kasuals. Her calling as a mother was undoubtedly her most valued profession. She loved to travel. She and Darrell cruised to Alaska, Hawaii and the Caribbean. Summers were spent in Chester camping in their 5th wheel. They traveled to Colorado every year to visit their son, Darrell and explored every corner of the state. Mary was past president of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Junior Women's Club. In addition, she was a member of the OHS Booster's Club and the Orland Alumni Association. One of her greatest joys was watching her children and grand children participate in sporting events. Those who knew Mary well will recall her compassion and love of people, devotion to her friends and family, fierce competitiveness, spunky attitude and warm, welcoming smile. Her legacy is substantial as a wife, mother, grand mother, great grand mother, aunt, counselor and friend. Her presence will be missed. She was a loving and protective mother to Linda Laman (Bob), Chico, Debra DuLong (Mark), Happy Valley, Darrell W. Johnson (Susan), Castle Rock, CO., Karri Westaby (Steve), Happy Valley; a supportive and doting grandmother to Melissa Flud (Ernie), Chico, Jessica Horner (Brad), Vancouver, WA., Brandi Sharpe (Jeff), Orland, Zachary Westaby (Nicole), Anderson, Lucas Westaby (Hannah), Redding, Amy Westaby (Nathan), Happy Valley, Anthony Sanchez (Tasha), Anderson, Ashleigh Wong (Seth), Denver, CO., Courtney Finger (Ryan), Westminster, CO., and Hilarie Miller, Lone Tree, CO.; a fun and wise great grandmother to Dylan Flud, Chico, Marysa and Danae Gutierrez, Orland, Aubrey and Ian Horner, Vancouver, and Camden and Rae Sanchez, Anderson. She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends that made her life so rich. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Darrell, her parents, Virgil and Edythe, and her brother, Floyd Daniels. The family would like to thank the staff at West Haven Assisted Living for their loving and tender care of our mother and Shelly and Dan Carnagey for being an essential part of her life. The Johnson family requests that any memorial contributions for the Darrell R. Johnson Memorial Scholarship. for graduating OHS scholar athletes, be sent to Sweet-Olsen Family Mortuary at 825 A Street, Orland, CA. 95963.
