ALEXANDER ANTON JOHANSEN

Alexander "Zander" Johansen, 88, loving husband, father, brother, and uncle, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2010. Alexander was born on October 13, 1921 in Willows, CA to John and Martha Johansen.

Alexander lived all his life in Orland, California. He graduated from Orland High School in 1940. He had wonderful memories of attending the Worlds Fair at Treasure Island, playing in the Orland High School Band.

Alexander married his high school sweetheart, Bernice Harms on January 9, 1943, at the Fort Francis Army Base in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Bernice and Alexander had three children: Jim Johansen, Susan Jones (Dick), and Chris Johansen.

Alexander is survived by his wife; his children; and five grandchildren: Cherolynn Vila, Bethany Johansen, Alexandra Johansen, Sarah Cain, and Alexander Johansen, and one great-grandchild, Jaxon Cain.

Alexander was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Margaret. Alexander is survived by his brother, Norman.

Alexander served in the Army during WWII and was discharged as a Staff Sergeant. He attended Chico State and worked at Johansen's Meat Market.

Alexander was a Mason since October 1943, a volunteer fireman, active in Kiwanis, and served on the Glenn County School Board.

Graveside Services will be held Friday, August 27, 2010 at 9:00 a.m. at the Masonic Cemetery, Wyo Road, Orland. A reception will follow the graveside service at the Eagles Hall in Orland.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations, in honor of Alexander, be made to Alzheimer's research.
