1918 - 2010 Obituary Condolences

Ann Mitchell, 92, of Rolling Hills Estates, died Sunday, June 13, 2010.

Ann was born May 1, 1918, in St. Paul, Minn., to Solomon and Runya Levich, Russian immigrants. Ann attended the University of Minnesota.

After her marriage to Jack Mitchell on Sept. 2, 1939, they moved to California and eventually settled in the South Bay area of Los Angeles County.

Ann was a librarian. She worked in local libraries before getting her master's degree at UCLA. She was then hired as a librarian at UCLA, working first at the University Research Library and later serving as head of public services at the Law Library, where she worked for the rest of her career.

Ann was active in Democratic politics throughout her life. She was an avid gardener, who loved California native plants. She supported many environmental, social and political causes. She was one of the founding members of the Unitarian Church on the Palos Verdes Peninsula. Ann loved traveling, listening to jazz and classical music and was an avid reader. She was a doting grandmother.

Ann is survived by her two sons, Larry Mitchell (Margot Gegg) of Chico and Andy Mitchell (Liz Moore) of Vista; her sister, Lucille Zmudzinski of Long Beach; and her two grandchildren, Jevon Gegg-Mitchell of Chico and Bryna Gegg-Mitchell of Arcata. She is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at a later time in Los Angeles County.
