ANNIE FISCHER 1938 - 2010

Annie Fischer (Elicia Ann Holt Fischer), died peacefully July 15, 2010 in Columbia, MO.

A Celebration of her life will be held at 5:00 p.m. at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 235 S. Church St., in Grass Valley, CA on Saturday, July 24, 2010.

Annie was born in Placerville, California on March 13, 1938. She grew up in Grass Valley, CA with her sister, Patricia, brother, Lee, and parents, Lillian and Duane Holt. Ann attended Grass Valley High School, graduating in 1956 and was very active in Jobs Daughters. She married Robert Fischer of Nevada City in 1961 and they raised two children, Marci and Milton. They moved to Chico, CA in 1969 and Ann received her Masters in Art History. She taught at Butte Community College and also owned Fischer Galleries in downtown Chico until 1982. She moved back to Grass Valley after her divorce and the death of her mother. She continued to teach at the primary and secondary schools in Grass Valley until 1987. She received her Real Estate License and worked as a Realtor for Rolling Hills Realty until 1995. In her love of travel, she joined the Peace Corps in 1995, being one of the oldest volunteers approved for the position. She taught English in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan for 2 years before returning home to the United States. She spent the next years helping her son in Oregon with his guide business, and in Columbia Missouri with her daughter and son-in- law helping to raise her three grandsons. She moved to Modesto, CA in 2002.

She is survived by her sister, Patricia Peterson of Modesto, CA; daughter and son-in-law, Marci and Larry Auman of Columbia, MO; three grandsons, Ryan Merrick of Perrysburg, OH, Adam Merrick of Chico, CA, and Kyle Merrick of Columbia, MO; niece and nephew, Leanne and Dimitri Guzman of Modesto, CA.

Her son, Milton Fischer preceded her in death in 2002.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that a donation be made to the "Milton L. Fischer Memorial Scholarship" at Reed College.
