Arthur James Lovin was born August 22, 1918 in Chico, CA to Charles and Emilie Lovin. He died Wednesday, April 2, 2008 in Chico at the age of 89.

Art attended College Elementary, Chico Senior High School, and Chico State College. His love of music and drums began at College Elementary; he had his own band at Chico Senior High; and his own orchestra all three years at Chico State. The orchestra was billed as "Art Lovin and Orchestra- California's Best College Band." Those were his glory days. He was also a member of Delta Psi Delta Fraternity.

Art met and married La Vone, his one true love. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Art owned bars in Anchorage, Alaska and San Francisco. He later worked as a Pari-Mutuals Clerk for horse racing. Art was a member of Pari-Mutuals Union Local 280.

Art was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Lovin; his sister, Alice Knapp; his niece, La Vone Varendorff; and niece, Linda Jerling.

Art is survived by his sister, Helen Schwartz of Chico; niece, Arleen Chapman of Lakeport, CA; nephew, Richard and Adele Lovin of Antioch, CA; niece, Sandy Adams of Chico; niece, Roberta and Al Azevedo of Wilton, CA; niece, Georgia and Jim Baron of Everett, WA; nephew, Bob and Sandra Knapp of Snohomish, WA; and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews; and the loving family at Prestige Assisted Living, especially his buddy Lori Whitburn.
