ARTHUR VICTOR VELASCO Arthur Victor Velasco, 88, loving husband and father, passed away January 10 in Chico, California after a courageous battle with pulmonary fibrosis. Arthur was born on March 20, 1925 to Victor and Trinnie Velasco in Los Angeles, California. Arthur's family moved to the bay area when he was three settling down in Alameda, California. Arthur graduated from Alameda High in 1943. As a member of Alameda High's ROTC program Arthur chose to enlist in the service after high school. He served in the Army Air Corps for two years as a member of the European Theatre in World War II. His service included being a waist gunner on the B17. After his discharge in 1945, Arthur returned to Los Angeles where he soon met the love of his life, Rosalba Gonzales. In 1949 Arthur became employed by Pacific Bell working for them for 38 years until his retirement in 1987. Arthur and Rosalba married in 1951 and moved to Downey, California, where they lived until 1994 when they moved to Magalia, California. Arthur and his bride enjoyed traveling all over the world. They feel very fortunate to have traveled across 6 of the 7 continents. When asked about the best part of traveling they responded, "Enjoying each other's company. Arthur Velasco is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Rosalba; his sister Gerry Brazil of Texas; his daughter Victoria Petrowski, (Allen), granddaughter Lauren, of Prescott, Arizona; his son Steven, (Seana) grandson Bryce; his son Mark, (Maria), grandchildren Angela Velasco of Lancaster, California, Mark II of Hollywood, California and Stephanie Esquer (Steven) of Colton, California. A memorial service honoring Arthur will held at Our Divine Savior Catholic Church, 566 E. Lassen Avenue, Chico, California, Saturday, January 18, 2014 at 10:00 AM. Preceding the memorial mass, a rosary will be held at 9:30 AM. In lieu of flowers the family requests that you honor Arthur by donating to .
