Obituary Condolences

Beatriz M. Ciesielski, 99, passed away peacefully in Grover Beach on February 28, 2008. She was born in July of 1908 in Pacific Grove, California, to Frank and Carrie Castro Rico.

Bea attended schools on the Monterey Peninsula and graduated from Monterey High School. She was the descendant of soldiers and settlers who came to Alta, California with the 1769 expedition and Anza in 1777.

After her marriage to Vladimir "Dode" Ciesielski, they lived on various ranches in Monterey and Fresno Counties raising cattle, horses, hogs, sheep and goats. Bea was a past president of the Native Daughters of the Golden West, Coalinga Parlor No. 270, and secretary of both the Coalinga Grange #779 and the Wyandotte Grange #495 in Oroville for many years. For over a decade she has been a member of Los Californianos, an organization dedicated to preserving the heritage of early Hispanic Californians in Alta California.

Quilting was a hobby she learned later in life and she delighted in putting together patchwork quilts and pillows from a fabric bank she willingly shared with friends. In San Luis Obispo she was an active member of the Food Committee at The Palms where she lived for the past six years.

Bea was preceded in death by her husband, "Dode", in 1987. Survivors include her son, Richard Ciesielski (Barbara) of San Luis Obispo; daughter Beatriz Wing (Kenneth) of Napa; six grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and eight great-great grandchildren.

Services will be held at Kuehl-Nicolay Funeral Home in Paso Robles on Wednesday, March 5, at 10 a.m., with burial at a later date in San Miguel Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice Partners of the Central Coast, 277 South Street, Suite R, San Luis Obispo, CA 93401.
