1930 - 2014 Obituary Condolences
BILL FRIEND 11-23-30 to 11-20-14 Bill Friend was born in Oklahoma City, OK and was raised in Springfield, MO. At the age of 14 he moved to Wichita, KS. He met his wife, Mary Ellen, in high school. They just celebrated 64 years of marriage. Bill joined the Marine Corps in 1951. "Once a Marine, Always a Marine" was his favorite saying. Bill was a founding partner in the mobile home manufacturing company, Silvercrest Industries in California and Oregon. He was very proud of the innovations he brought to the mobile home industry including, gables, eaves, drywall, lap siding and being the first to ship mobile homes to Hawaii. In his retirement, Bill partnered up with his son in the family- run business, Mike Friend RV's, in Chico. Family was most important to Bill and that was something he instilled in all of his children and grandchildren. He made us all laugh and was never shy with sharing his opinion - time spent with Bill was always lively. He and Mary travelled to all 50 states, 49 in their RV. Bill loved his bass fishing. He and his son, Mike, spent many hours on Lake Oroville and won their share of tournaments. Hunting with longbows crafted by his son was another of his passions. His parents were Oscar and Ethel Friend, both deceased. Bill is survived by his wife, Mary, son Mike (wife Sharon), daughter Lori Davis (husband Michael), and daughter Julie Raines (husband Roy), 9 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, and his sister, EmmaJean Haworth, who lives in Bend, OR. We will always miss you "Great White Hunter". In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Wounded Warriors or a . Bill's family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and caregivers at Enloe's ICU unit. Their care, kindness and dedication in Bill's last days was incredible.
