Carolyn Sue (Carrier) McLaughlin Obituary
CAROLYN SUE MCLAUGHLIN Carolyn Sue (Carrier) McLaughlin of Chico, California passed away peacefully Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at home, with her husband by her side. Carolyn was born in Delphi, Indiana on August 29, 1938 to George and Alice Carrier. She spent her childhood in Delphi, graduating from Delphi High School in 1957. She met her husband of 55 years, Gerald, while roller-skating and married a year later in 1960. Two years after marrying, Carolyn, alone with her two-year old daughter, drove from Indiana to California to join her husband and resettle in northern California. The harrowing events from that cross-country trip were shared over many holiday dinners, and revealed her strong and independent nature. She lived in Red Bluff from 1963 through 1970, where she worked at Wells Fargo Bank and Crocker Citizens National Bank. In 1970, she moved with her family to Chico, working in the Trust Department of Crocker Bank for a few years before starting employment with the Chico Unified School District. She worked for many years at Chico Junior High School, retiring in 1995 with many fond memories. Carolyn enjoyed many activities with friends and family, including bowling, camping, traveling, and square dancing. Carolyn is survived by her husband, Gerald; daughter Susan Sabatier of Davis; grandchildren Katrina and Daniel; two brothers, James Carrier of Alabama and Tom Carrier (Sallie) of Florida; niece and nephews Theresa, Bradley, and Mike Renfro who grew up in Chico; and many other nieces and nephews outside of California. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Bill Carrier, sister Mary Alice Renfro, and daughter Patricia Blasdell. A celebration of life will be held on July 8, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Fraternal Order of Eagles, 1940 Mulberry Street, Chico, CA. Family will have a graveside service earlier that morning. Her husband wishes to thank Butte Home Health and Hospice, Butte Home Health Plus, and especially Gloria for all the wonderful care they gave Carolyn. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Butte Home Health and Hospice or . To share your thoughts and memories of Carolyn, go online to NewtonBracewell.com.
