COLONEL CECIL R. HALL Colonel Cecil R. Hall, husband, father, grand-father and brother passed away peacefully on March 8, 2018 at Prestige Assisted Living, Oroville. Cecil was born February 4, 1921 in Sand Springs, Tulsa, OK. His Cherokee ancestors traveled to the Gold Rush in 1850. They were listed on census records in Hamilton, Ophir and Forbestown. Cecil was a WWII "Hump" Pilot flying supplies and troops from India to China and back. His next assignment was the Berlin Airlift. After the Airlift he joined Air Force Intelligence, leading a team whose job it was to help people escape East Germany. In Spain he monitored Russian surveillance activities. His last tour was Vietnam. Cecil moved to Kelly Ridge in 1973 after retiring from the Air Force. He became a Rural Letter Carrier in Oroville and was Treasurer of his Local until they became part of the Sacramento Local. Cecil was awarded the Cherokee Warrior certificate. The German Consul in San Francisco honored him at the Oroville VFW for his Berlin Airlift service. Cecil researched Cherokee History. He was an avid reader, visiting The Book Worm, often. He will be missed.
