1920 - 2012 Obituary Condolences

Charles Lamont Rough, Sr., 92, of Paradise, passed away peacefully on July 6, 2012.

Charles, who was the surviving sibling of six brothers and a sister, was born in Long Beach, CA on January 23, 1920, to Robert and Hazel Rough.

He was raised in Burbank, CA, graduated from Burbank High School in 1938, received his Associate of Arts Degree from Santa Barbara College, and married Eddys Lee Beasley, his high school sweetheart, also from Burbank in 1942.

A World War II veteran, he served in General Patton's 3rd Army and fought in three major battle campaigns, in the European Theater, including the Battle of the Bulge. A Purple Heart veteran, he was honorably discharged in 1946.

His professional career included being a custom home designer and builder, aerospace and marine systems engineer and production manager, and boat manufacturer.

Charles was a uniquely gifted and courageous man with a sharp intellect, wry wit and sense of humor, who was imbued with considerable God-given talent, and who lived life to its fullest.

During his lifetime he was a pilot, builder, inventor, designer, engineer, business entrepreneur, artist, painter, writer, author, avid reader, wine lover, fearless cook, and hopeless romantic; but more importantly, he was a deeply spiritual man with a kind, loving, gentle, and wise soul.

A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, he has left his family with a wonderful legacy and example of how to live and die with dignity, courage and grace.

Charles is survived by his wife of seventy years, Eddys Lee Rough; his two sons, Charles Jr. and Richard, and their families.

His celebratory memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 28, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Newton- Bracewell Chico Funeral Home.
