1930 - 2010 Obituary Condolences

Charles Nicholas Wood, age 80, of Gerber, passed away in Chico on Dec. 31, 2010, after a short illness. He was born on August 18, 1930 in Chico, CA to Rowlin and Luella Wood.

He attended Chico schools. He was in the Air Force in the Aleutian Islands from 1947-1950, then a Reservist until 1957. He married Dorothy Wood in 1952, he was widowed in 1997. He was a self employed welding fabricator, then worked with North Valley Ready Mix and Agri Systems until retirement. He was the Sergeant of the Chico Police Reserve in the '60's. He loved playing with his great-grandchildren. He had a huge garden and supplied friends and family with pounds of tomatoes, onions and garlic. When he became legally blind, he attended the Western Rehabilitation Center for Veteran's and enjoyed the five weeks of training he received.

He is survived by his daughters, Charlee S. Smith of Camas, WA, Elizabeth J. Howe of Orland, CA and Louwellyn Jones of Salem, OR; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and several brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Oaks Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Veteran's Administration, Western Blind Rehabilitation Center in care of the Brusie Funeral Home.
