Obituary Condolences


Darrell J. Compton went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Feb. 21, 2008 at his home with his family by his side.

He was born June 21, 1920 in Cleveland, North Dakota to Elnora and Charles Compton. At the age of 8 he moved with his family to Sacramento where he graduated from high school in 1939. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1942 to 1945 and fought in the Guadalcanal Campaign. Following the service he worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad, worked as a diesel mechanic, and was a jet propulsion tester with Aerojet.

In 1967, he moved to Chico where he worked in construction, building many commercial sites in Northern California. On January 18, 1986 he married Marion Gilmore Prestesater. Darrell enjoyed hunting, motorcycling and fabricating wood and metal. He was a member of V.F.W. Post 1555 and Butte Bible Fellowship.

Survivors include his wife, Marion; his son, Darrell; two daughters, Pamela Anderson and Deborah Sutton; two stepsons, Duane and Derek Prestesater; four grandchildren; four step-grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2008 at Newton-Bracewell Chico Funeral Home.

Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at Chico Cemetery. A memorial service will follow at 12 Noon at Butte Bible Fellowship.
