1920 - 2011 Obituary Condolences


David George Powell, 91, died on September 10, 2011 in Paradise, CA.

Born on April 26, 1920 to George and Rosella Powell in Fairfax, WA, Dave grew up in Torrance, CA, graduating from Torrance High School in 1938. He worked at Northrup Aircraft and married Dorothy Wilson in 1941. During World War II, he enlisted in the Navy and served aboard the USS Teale stationed in the Aleutian Islands. After the war, he became a metal lather and estimator in the commercial construction industry, retiring as a vice-president of a dry wall company.

In 1970, he and his wife moved to Kings Beach, CA, where they owned and operated the Blue Vue Lodge. Upon moving to Paradise in 1976, Dave joined the Paradise Elks Lodge. As an active member for nearly thirty years, he enjoyed working with the Elks youth programs and traveling with fellow members.

Dave was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; granddaughter, Charmaine Powell; four sisters and three brothers.

He is survived by his sons, David Tice Powell (Joyce) of Stuart, FL; Larry Powell (Gayle) of West Linn, OR; grandsons, David Drew Powell (Robin) of Tupelo, Miss.; Douglas Powell (Nicole) of Portland, OR; Craig Powell of Birch Bay, WA; great-granddaughters, Katelyn, Destiny and Maria Powell of Tupelo, Miss. and great- grandson, Logan Powell of Birch Bay, WA.

He also leaves a sister, Betty Marsh; a brother, Regan Powell, and his dear friend and traveling companion, Lorraine Clark of Chico.

A Celebration of Life service with veterans honors will be held Monday, October 17, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Paradise Elks Lodge.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to the Paradise Elks Scholarship Fund, c/o Newton-Bracewell Chico Funeral Home.
