Don Coutolenc Obituary
DON COUTOLENC Donnan Eugene Coutolenc, 83, of Paradise, CA, passed away peacefully at home on August 2, 2013 with his family by his side. He was born to Gene and Elsie Coutolenc, January 2, 1930, in Chico. CA. Don graduated from Chico High School in 1947 and in 1951 received a BA in Education followed by a Special Secondary Life Diploma in Music from CSU Chico. Immediately following his college graduation, Don enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served as a Second Lieutenant until September of 1953. After the service, Don began his teaching career in Paradise, CA. During his 37 years as a music instructor, Don had the unique privilege of teaching in every school in the Paradise Unified School District. The majority of this time was spent at Paradise High School and Ponderosa Elementary School. Don had a passion for teaching young people--their enthusiasm and creativity were the spawning ground for producing outstanding musical extravaganzas. "Mr. C," as he was affectionately called, demanded excellence and cheered heartfelt genuine effort. His students left his classes with more than just a music education. He also helped them to build strong character and good values. In 1990, Don retired from teaching and spent the next ten years working as a computer consultant. As a consultant to Paradise Unified School District he established an interactive computer network that linked all of the administrative computers throughout the district. He was a pioneer in the field of computer networking for the public schools in Paradise. Don also was an accomplished woodworker who built beautiful cabinets and furniture. He also built and flew various model airplanes. He served as a Deacon at Paradise Alliance Church and voluntarily developed a computer network in the church administrative offices that he maintained for more than 20 years. Don will be remembered by his family and friends for his exceptional piano playing, humor and wit, and strong moral character. He is survived by his wife. Bettie, son, Gene of Studio City, daughters, Niki Davis of Chico and Christi Hale of San Jose, grandson, Miles Donnan Hale of San Jose, and sister, Marge Maddux of Chico. A memorial service will be held at Paradise Alliance Church on Tuesday, August 6th at 1:00 p.m. A reception at the church will follow. The family requests that donations be made in Don's honor to Paradise Hospice.
