Memorial services were held in the San Diego area on Wednesday, July 14, 2010 for Donald Lee Patterson, 57, who died July 7, 2010. Born in El Paso, Texas, Patterson grew up in Chico and graduated from Chico High School in 1971. His first job was delivering the Enterprise-Record in the Chico Vecino neighborhood. He attended Bowling Green University, graduated with honors from San Diego State University, and was a graduate student in finance at the University of Liverpool in England.

He was a senior consultant to the Cinnabon Division of Focus Brands, and from 2005 to 2010 was Director of Development Operations in the western U.S. for American Dairy Queen, Inc. His accomplishments as an inspirational leader and mentor for young employees led to numerous company citations and awards.

Patterson's civic activities included a term as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Ocelot, a support group for the San Diego Zoo; the steering committee for America's Finest City half-Marathon, and he was a recruiter and coach for youth soccer. He was a charter member of the Christ United Reformed Church in Santee and active in the congregation's life.

A devoted husband and father, Patterson is survived by his wife, Deb and daughters, Anisa and Mikaela, all of the San Diego area; his mother, Elizabeth Patterson of Chico; sisters, Jane of Ft. Bragg, and Kathleen, of Washington D.C.; Deb's children, Mark Vander Pol (Michelle), Rebekah Eekhoff (Dan), Anna Brinks (Jim), and Rachel Vander Pol; grandchildren, Annika, Taryn and Landon Eekhoff, and nephew and niece, Patrick and Gillian Leibach, and their father, Dale Leibach; his brother-in-law, all of Washington D.C.. His father, E.T. "Pat" Patterson, also of Chico, predeceased him. His favorite pastimes were family camping trips, coaching his daughters in soccer and reading across a wide range of history, biography, finance and sports.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests education fund donations to Chase Bank for Anisa and Mikaela Patterson, Rancho San Diego, 2644 Jamacha Rd, El Cajon, CA, 92019.
