DONNA KAY LENHOFF

After an active life of service to loved ones and others, Donna Kay Lenhoff passed away after a brief illness January 11, 2008. She was born in Santa Cruz in 1935. Her mother and father, Vy and Harold Belcher, later moved to Brush Creek, where they operated the Brush Creek Store. While there, Donna attended elementary school, later transferring to schools in Oroville, where she graduated from Oroville High School in 1953.

Donna then attended Chico State, where she earned her BA and General Secondary Credential, graduating with honors. She started her teaching career in Santa Cruz, returning to Oroville to teach English at Oroville High. She was transferred as the first head of the English Department at Las Plumas High School when it opened.

During the time, she met and married Jim Lenhoff and had two children, Kay and Jennifer. She often substituted at Oroville High while raising her family. From 1980 to 2005, Donna served as an English instructor at Butte College, retiring with Faculty Emeritus status upon recommendation of the Academic Senate.

Donna co-authored an English text distributed by a national publisher. While at Butte she also taught at the college's Police Academy and Learning Center.

Donna is survived by her husband, daughters, and four grandchildren, Aaron, Luke, Isabella, and Raquel. She was a member of the DAR, the Butte County Historical Society, and the First Congregational Church, where she was serving on the Diaconate. She helped to develop the museum complex at Cherokee and the Ehmann Home. She also served on the Diggin's staff.

Donna enjoyed novels, game puzzles, genealogy, and most recently her water aerobics class with ladies at a local sports club. She also enjoyed traveling to high Sierra mountain towns and was able to visit several foreign countries.

Friends and loved ones may wish to make a donation to the Butte College Foundation Scholarship Endowment in Donna's name, or other favorite charity. At her request, no formal services have been scheduled. A memorial tribute will be held in her honor at a later date.
