DONNA RAE FLORES

Donna Rae Flores, lifelong Chico resident,  passed away in Chico, January 4, 2008 at the age of 79, after a long illness.

She will be greatly missed by her daughter, Leslie of San Francisco; son, Scott of Sacramento; son-in-law, Mark Ulriksen  and granddaughters, Emma and Lily of San Francisco. She was proceeded in death by her husband of 54 years, Manuel.  Her children knew her as a supportive and non-judgemental friend, and her friends knew her for her great taste and style.

She was born October 30, 1928 to Sidney and Florine Livingston who owned a local men and boy's clothing store, Sid Livingston Outfitter's on Main Street. Donna attended local schools and graduated from Chico High. In her late teens she was diagnosed with Myasthenia Gravis. With a zest for life Donna was always active, never allowing her disease to get the best of her.

On July 22, 1952 she married Manuel James Flores, also of Chico. Together they designed and built a house in which they lived for most of their lives.  Donna enjoyed traveling, she and her husband saw much of the world. Donna appreciated the arts avidly and attended theater, ballet and musical performances in San Francisco, Sacramento, as well as locally. Passionate about movies all of her life, she always kept current and was well versed at Academy Awards time.  She loved hosting parties and spending time with family and friends. Donna was also prized for her sense of humor and ability to laugh at herself.  She kept many pets and was a great lover of dogs with little legs like Welsh Corgi's.  She was a member of the Alpha Beta Sorority in Chico for over 25 years and also belonged to the Unitarian Church for over 35 years.

A graveside service is planned for 11:00 a.m., January 11, 2008 at Glen Oaks Memorial Cemetery.  Donations can be made to the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation or local Alzheimer's Association.  Brusie Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
