EDWIN RANDAL LOGAN Ed Logan, age 72, passed away on July 23, 2013, the result of a tragic accident in Alaska. Ed was born, September 4, 1940, in Klamath Falls, Oregon. He was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Eloise Logan, and a son Kevin Reed Logan. He graduated from Crater High School, Central Point, Oregon, in 1958, where he was an outstanding football player. He received a BA and MA in Art from California State University, Chico, where he was a member of the Delta Psi Delta Fraternity. He also coached JV Football from 1965-1971. While teaching for Chico Unified School District, Ed taught Art classes part time at night for Butte Community College. His goal was to complete a 50-year educational career and then "finally" retire. He was a popular, well-liked and respected teacher who made a difference in many students' lives. Ed was a true renaissance man. His talents ranged from working heavy construction, truck driving, and pursuing a private pilot's license. He was an exceptionally talented artist. His artwork includes airbrush, pencils, oils, glass etchings, and wood carvings. His paintings range from humorous to serious portraits. Numerous schools in Chico and outlying districts have murals designed and painted by him. Ed had a wide circle of friends. He fished in the Kenai Peninsula, Alaska, with close friends from high school as well as locally with his teaching friends on the Sacramento River. His PVHS colleagues shared a special bond for 43 years at the annual Spring Fling. He will be deeply missed by so many close friends as well as his family. Ed is survived by the mother of his three children Joy Martellero of Chico, California. Their children are Kristina Porter of Medford, Oregon, Darci Logan of Grants Pass, Oregon, and Bradley Logan of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. He is also survived by his sister Gwen Winters, step sisters Becky Collins and Roberta Veitenhans, and eight grandchildren. He is also survived by his long-time canine companion Maverick. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to Newton-Bracewell Funeral Home, 680 Camellia Way, Chico, CA 95926.
