Elizabeth Olson "Bettie" Hill Obituary
ELIZABETH 'BETTIE' OLSON HILL Bettie Hill passed away on June 20, 2018 after a long life and a brief illness. Bettie was born in Bangalore India May 27, 1926 where her parents were missionaries. Though born in India, she was proud of her Oregon pioneer heritage. Bettie earned a BA in Journalism from Willa-mette University and later earned a Master's in English at California State University, Chico. She first worked in Portland Oregon after college at several news-papers in the Portland area. She then moved to Oakland California to work for Kaiser Steel. Bettie later taught briefly at Chico State and Butte Community College and also worked for the Dobson's on the daytime soap opera General Hospital. She met and married Winston Hill in Oregon and made a family after settling in Chico where Win worked as a pro-fessor at the University. In addition to her family, her passion and joy was researching and writing books with Win on family history. Together, they researched and wrote "An Emmel Chronicle," a history of Bettie's family. After Win's death in 2007, she continued to write about her parents' adventures in India. She was involved in the Chico community with the Children's Home Society, AAUW, two Bridge groups, two book groups (one of which she helped begin 45 years ago), a charter member of the North State Symphony Guild, and Bidwell Memorial Presbyterian Church. Bettie is survived by her daughters Marguerite and Nora, son-in-law Rod, five grandchildren and one great grandchild. Memorial Contributions to: Enloe Hospital or Chico Friends of the Library. A Celebration of Life party (in true Hill fashion) will be held on July 4, 2018 beginning at 3:00 PM. Please contact the family for more information. Burial will be at the National Veteran's Cemetery in Portland, Oregon. Online condolances can be sent to the family at www.brusiefh.com
