Ellen Jane (Livingston) Steele Obituary
ELLEN JANE (LIVINGSTON) STEELE Ellen Jane (Livingston) Steele, born August 2, 1969, passed away peacefully at her home in Chico on April 15, 2013 with family and friends at her side, after a brief, but courageous struggle with cancer. She was born in Chico to Rex and Dorothy Livingston. Her family operated a custom hay and bean harvesting business, which included going with her family to the mountains, baling and hauling hay. As a girl, Ellen was active in 4-H, raising pigs and steers and showing them at the Silver Dollar Fair. She attended Nord Elementary school, Bidwell Junior High school and graduated from Pleasant Valley High school in 1987. She attended an airline academy in Chico and secured employment with WestAir. While working with WestAir in Sacramento, she met a pilot named Gary Steele, whom she knew right away she would marry, and did so two years later, in 1990. The couple lived in Indiana, both working for US Air, until 1996, when they moved to Chico. Ellen and Gary have two sons. Ellen was active in the Nord Country School parent-teacher organization, and in Nord Cana 4-H Club. She was an original member of Orchard Church, and worked there as Executive Assistant, as well as volunteering in many of the church's activities. Ellen was one of the founders of, and especially involved in, the Orchard Church Christmas Wish Program, providing gifts for underprivileged children. She loved to sing in the church worship band. In addition to her church work, Ellen worked with sister-in-law Shelley Livingston in the livestock department at the Silver Dollar Fair and with niece Tillie Mann at the Calaveras County Fair. Ellen loved her family, her many friends and her music. She lived life to the fullest and gave much of herself to everyone around her. Ellen was full of life and joy and never knew a stranger. Ellen is survived by her husband Gary, sons Mitchell and Andrew, parents Rex and Dorothy Livingston, brother Lyle (Rochelle) Livingston of Chico, sisters Nancy (Ed) Sousa of Orland and Yvonne (Kelly) Wooster of Copperopolis, uncle Wayne Livingston and aunt Mary Jane McCallum, and many nieces, nephews, an extended family, and numerous loving friends. A memorial service for Ellen will be held on Thursday, April 25, 2013 at 1pm at the Silver Dollar Fairground. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Nord Cana 4-H, Nord Country School or Orchard Church. To send condolences to the family, go online to NewtonBracewell.com.
