Obituary Condolences


Ellen L. Brown died Wednesday, July 21, 2011, at her home in Fort Worth, Texas. She was 63.

A successful business woman, Ellen was a former Chico resident and a Dunsmuir native. She attended Dunsmuir High School, graduating in 1965. She attended CSU, Chico, completing courses in accounting. She began her accounting career in Chico, culminating in founding and managing her firm "Bean Counters" Inc.

Ellen married her late husband, Louis Brown in 1989, settling in Chico. They were very active in church, with the 10-10 RV Club and with local charities. Ellen was the founder of the non-profit, Wishmakers, to aid families of terminally ill children. Following her retirement, Ellen and her husband moved to Brookings, Oregon, where she was active in the Red Hat Society, as well as volunteering at the local animal rescue.

An avid traveler, Ellen traveled the country by travel trailer with Louis, as well as cruising to South America, Europe, and Asia. She loved to decorate and was a master at knitting and crocheting. Ellen and Louis had a very active social life and enjoyed many friends.

Ellen Brown is survived by three step-sons, Steven of Virginia and Craig and Gregg of California.

A Memorial Service is planned for 1:00 p.m. Sunday, August 28, 2011 at Newton Bracewell Funeral Home in Chico.
