Elmore "Pidge" Holderbein, 89 passed away on January 5, 2008. He was born January 14, 1918 in Saskatchewan, Canada. He moved with his family to Capay in 1923. He married Marie Cherry on August 5, 1939. He worked as a carpenter out of Chico for 50 years and was an avid gardener. He was instrumental in starting the Orland farmers market in the summer of 1980. He belonged to the Capay Grange #461 for 50 years and was a master for 20 years. He is survived by his wife of 68 years Marie, his daughter Vernetta and her husband Doug. His two grandsons, Douglas Ehrk and John Ehrk and two great-grandchildren. His brothers, Don Holderbein of Canby, Oregon and Robert Holderbein of Forest Hill, Calif. and numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held Friday, January 11 at 11:00 a.m. at the Oddfellows Cemetery on Road "P" in Orland. A reception will follow at the Capay Grange Hall at 4th and Post in Capay. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or the Capay Fire Dept.
