EVELYN WIEBE

1929 - 2012 Obituary Condolences
EVELYN WIEBE Evelyn Wiebe was born in Saskatchewan Canada to Nelson and Amalia Priebe, May 29, 1929. She grew up in a large family with four brothers and five sisters, one being her identical twin Eileen. Her family moved to British Columbia when she was in her teens and there she worked in the Royal Bank and the Abbotsford Post Office, where she met her husband of forty years, Jack, at the post office window. They moved to California in 1958. They originally landed in southern CA. Evelyn worked for the Bank of America in Tustin until their daughter, Penny arrived in 1961. Their son, Barry was born in 1969 after the family moved to Redding. In 1976, the family made a final move to Chico, where they have stayed since. When the children were older, Evelyn went to work at the Mervyn's store in the North Valley Plaza, where she worked in the domestics and home department. She was at Mervyn's for 18 years until she retired in 1996. This was the job she enjoyed the most; helping her customers and spending time with the friends she made there. They still get together once a month even though the Mervyn's store is no longer in Chico. Evelyn attended Neighborhood Church and had sung in the choir for a number of years. She went to sing with Jesus on the morning of October 22, 2012 and is now cancer-free. Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Penny Lillie, and her son-in-law, Bob. She has three dearly loved grandchildren, Paul Murphy, currently of Daytona Beach, FL and Robin and Katrina Lillie, both of Chico, and a large extended family, mainly in British Columbia. There will be a memorial service to remember Evelyn on Monday, November 5, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. in the prayer chapel at Neighborhood Church. The family has asked that any donations may be made to the Jean Turner Memorial Scholarship at Chico Christian Preschool, in care of Newton-Bracewell Chico Funeral Home.
