1925 - 2011 Obituary Condolences

Florence was born to Hubert E. and Annie (Reeves) Potts on Sept. 05, 1925 at Engle Mine, Plumas County, CA, and passed away on September 20, 2011 in Oroville, Butte County, CA.

She attended Sherman Institute from 1933/34 to graduation from the trade school in 1943, and went to work as a "Rosie the Riveter" for Ryan Aeronautical of San Diego. She held many positions during her working career, with teacher aide for the Palermo School District, Palermo, CA, being the longest at 17 years. She also worked at Pacific Coast Producers of Oroville, CA for almost 10 years.

She actively pursued Native American rights and issues all of her adult life and attended or served on committees of organizations such as CA Indian Manpower Consortium (C.I.M.C.), CA Indian Education, and Inter-Tribal Council of CA (I.T.C.C.). She was an adopted member of Mooretown Rancheria. She enjoyed crocheting and embroidery, considering it her "down time", a way to relax, and excelled in both, but was always ready to play cards or slots with her family and friends.

In her later years, she and Mike remained active with her friends from the Tribal Seniors Nutrition group, and continued to speak her mind on Native American Indian issues.

Florence is preceded in death by her eldest daughter, Victoria (DeLeon) Ussery in 2005 and her husband of 38 years, A.L. Grashorn in 1990.

She is survived by her loving partner of 17 years, Margarito (Mike) Lopez; two remaining siblings, Retha (Mix) Gray and Everett "Weary" Smith, and her ten children from her previous marriages, Roslind (DeLeon) Schaffer, Colorado Springs, CO, Ernest G. DeLeon, San Diego, CA, Christine (DeLeon) Logan, Oroville, CA; Mario L. DeLeon, Green Bay, WI, Danny D. DeLeon, Oroville, CA, Patricia (DeLeon) Broome, Sacramento, CA; Marlene (Grashorn) Reese, Sacramento, CA, Brenda (Grashorn) McCorcle, Oroville, CA, Andrea (Grashorn) Page, Alexandria, VA, Elizabeth (Grashorn) Bergman, Oroville, CA; seven sons-in-law; 32 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will be held for Florence on Friday, September 30, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Scheer Memorial Chapel, 2410 Foothill Blvd, Oroville, CA, with interment planned for a later date at Keystone Cemetery, Dobbins, Yuba County, CA.
