GAELON WELLS SILVA

1936-2012

Gaelon Wells Silva was born in Willits, CA on May 27, 1936 to Margaret Johnson Silva and Ralph Henry Silva. At 5 days of age he and his mother rode the Skunk Motorcar driven by Fred Goranson, his maternal grandfather, home to Fort Bragg, CA.

His fight to breath ended peacefully July 21, 2012 at 0115 at Roseleaf Senior Care Facility in Chico, CA.

The family moved to Vallejo, CA in 1942 where Ralph worked at Mare Island Naval Ship Yard during WWII building submarines.

In 1946 the family moved to Chico, CA. Gaelon attended Citrus Elementary School, Central Jr. High School and Chico Senior High School graduating in 1954. In September 1954 Gaelon enlisted in the United States Navy. He served 25 ½ years retiring in April 1980 as Chief Hospital Corpsman. During his years of service only 26 days were spent aboard a United States Navy Ship and 14 plus years were spent with the Marines including the 1st Marine Air Wing in Vietnam 1969-1970.

Gaelon married Liane Hoolsema in 1968 while station at Cherry Point, N.C. before his deployment to Vietnam. After serving in Vietnam he was stationed at the Naval Air Station in Falon, NV. Both children were born at Washoe Medical Center in Reno, Nevada.

Upon retiring Gaelon moved his family to Chico to be closer to his parents. The marriage ended in divorce that same year. He continued as part-time parent and attended Butte College and CSU Chico graduating in 1984 with a BA in Health Care Management.

Gaelon married Janyce Boyd August 18, 1986, beginning a most enjoyable and fulfilling journey of life. Janyce was truly his "Soul Mate".

Gaelon is survived by his wife, Janyce of Chico, CA.; his son, John Silva (Sharon Hurwitz) and grandson, Alexander of Chicago, IL. John teaches in the Chicago Public Schools and Sharon is a fundraiser for the Lurie Children's Hospital;

his daughter, Kimberly Silva Gibson, (Jason Gibson) and step-granddaughter, Ashley Gibson. Kim is a Chief Builder and serves as the Assistant Officer in Charge of Construction Battalion Maintenance Unit 303 Detachment Bangor,WA. Jason is a Senior Chief Missile Technician and serves as the Weapons Department Enlisted Advisor aboard USS Michigan SSGN 727 (Blue).

He is also survived by a step-son, Christopher Boyd of San Pedro, CA.

A private Military Honor service and inurnment will be at the Northern, CA Veterans Cemetery in Igo, CA., at a later date.

In leiu of flowers it was Gaelon's wish that Memorial Gifts be sent to the Native Daughter's of the Golden West Home in San Francisco, CA where he often stayed with his wife.
