Gladder Edward Jahr Obituary
GLADDER EDWARD JAHR

Gladder Edward Jahr passed away on January 11, 2011 of natural causes, in Oroville. He was 97.

Born to Adolph and May Jahr in Hitterdal, Clay County, Minnesota on July 26, 1913, Gladder began his life in the farm country which had been settled by Norwegian immigrant homesteaders, among them, his grandparents. His family moved to Pasadena in 1923 where Gladder and his sisters grew up and attended the Pasadena City Schools.

Gladder worked his entire career in the petroleum supply industry, opening and operating field stores in the oil producing areas of California and ultimately working from headquarters offices in San Francisco and then Los Angeles.

While running a field store in the San Joaquin Valley, Gladder met Madeline McNeilly, known to all as Bobbie, whom he married in 1945 at his family's church, Grace Lutheran, in Pasadena.

In the late 1940's Gladder and Bobbie settled in the Bay Area where their two sons were born. In 1954 the family moved to Pasadena where the boys grew up and Gladder and Bobbie completed their careers.

In 1979 they moved to Kelly Ridge and began more than 30 years of delightful retirement together, enjoying distant travel, their many friendships in Kelly Ridge and the pleasures of nearby Lake Oroville.

Gladder was known to all by his cheerful warmth, his welcoming smile and his kind and modest disposition. He was truly a friend to all he met. He and Bobbie taught their sons that in all things, consideration for others was the highest of virtues and that actions speak louder than words. It is in this way that they lived their lives together.

Gladder was predeceased by his sister, Grace; his twin sister, Gladys and his sisters, June and Alethe.

He is survived by the love of his life and his bride of 65 years, Bobbie; sons, Steven (Karen) of Redding and Craig (Gretchen) of Portand, Oregon; sister-in-law, Colleen McNeilly of Kelly Ridge, and by extended family members in Southern California and the Midwest.

Gladder and Bobbie are long time members of Calvary Lutheran Church in Oroville. A memorial service will be held there on Saturday, January 15, 2011 at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Luthern Church or to one's favorite charity. Arrangements are under the direction of the Neptune Society of Northern California, Chico branch.
