Hiram Strip Obituary
HIRAM STRIPE Hiram Welch Stripe, age 92 of Orland, CA passed away Friday January 2, 2015 in Chico surrounded by his family. He was born October 13, 1922 in Shattuck, OK to Welch and Eula Stripe. His family moved from Oklahoma to California in 1940. Hiram's schooling was interrupted due to wartime and family needs. However, he did receive his High School diploma from Orland High School in 2002. He married Dorothy Aileen Varner on September 18, 1946. In his early years, he worked for Pet Milk Company. Later he worked as a ranch hand, and a self-employed dairyman. Hiram was a member of the Orland Grange and a member of First Baptist Church for over 70 years. He loved working with his hands such as farming, ranching, growing a large garden, and wood working. He and his family survived the Great American Dust Bowl. He loved his youth in Oklahoma raising and training horses. Some people referred to him as a "horse whisperer." He saw many changes in his life from horse and buggy to a man on the moon, to the technology we have today. He loved getting together on Sunday afternoons with his family and make homemade ice cream. Hiram was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy in 2009. Survi-vors include daughter, Susan Wayrynen (Larry) of Astoria, OR, daughter Devora Corbin (Dino) of Chico, CA and daughter Becky Schroer (Dennis) of Orland, CA. Also grandsons Barney and Zachary Canadas, Phillip and Chris Corbin, Seth Cook, brother Don Stripe of Winnemucca, NV, sister Annabelle Bowen of Vancouver, WA and several nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service has been set for Saturday, January 10, 2015 at First Baptist Church of Orland at 11:00 A.M. Burial will be private, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Glenn Transit Service, 358 N. Butte Street, Willows, CA 95988, or to the Orland Volunteer Fire Depart-ment. F.D.
