IDA GRACE ARMOR Ida Grace (Palmer) Humble Armor--passed away peacefully on June 20, 2018, at home in Chico. Ida Grace was born in Kansas City, Missouri, on June 23, 1917, the 2nd daughter of Ida and Edgar Palmer. Her only sibling, older sister Kathryn Jackson, predeceased her in 2004. A celebration of of Ida Grace's life will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church of Chico, 285 E 5th Ave, · (530) 343-1497, at 2:00 p.m., Sept. 8. A reception to follow in the church social hall. Ida Grace grew up in Fall River, Kansas, where she attended Elementary and High School, graduating in 1935. She took "normal school" training for teachers and went to work at 18 as a school marm in a 1-room school near her home. She attended summer sessions every year at Kansas State Teachers College in Pittsburg, Kansas. where she met James E. Humble and married him in May 1942. She followed Jim from posting to posting while he served in the U.S. Army during World War II. They moved to Alturas, California, in 1951, where Jim was a county school administrator. When Jim passed away in January, 1958. Ida Grace returned, to teaching in a two-room schoolhouse in Likely, California . She graduated to the big cityAlturas--where she taught 4th and 5th grade students at Alturas Elementary School for 21 years. Ida Grace married Alturas businessman Headlee Armor in August 1959, and together they blended a family of eight. She embraced her six childrenWick, Carol, Scott, Chuck, Karen, Brian - and was always loving & supportive. Ida Grace and Headlee enjoyed traveling to Europe, Hawai'i, and took road trips throughout the USA. Headlee passed in June 1999. She relocated to Chico in 2004, where she enjoyed an active, independent lifestyle until her death. She is survived by her six children, 12 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Ida Grace once said, "I've paid my way and raised my children--of whom I am very proud--to be first class citizens. They are the ultimate monument to my long and eventful life. This is the best I could do; this is my greatest achievement." She also advised: " Have a great dayit could very well be your last!" She requested: "Please perform random acts of kindness & expressions of gratitude in my memory/ or in honor of me."
