RUTH IRENE

ANDERSON

May 3, 1919-Apri119,2008

Irene Anderson, loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 19, 2008 at the age of 88.

Irene was born on May 3, 1919 in Menan, Idaho to Ruben and Gertrude Scott, the fifth of eight children. Irene grew up during the Depression and she learned early in life the values of thrift and hard work, which helped her throughout her life. Her family moved from Idaho to California when she was 8 years old. It was in Gridley, California where she met the love of her life, Harold Eldon Anderson. They were married on October 7, 1937 in Gridley and were later sealed for time and eternity in the Logan, Utah Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (L.D.S.) on July 17, 1942.

Their early married years were spent primarily in Martinez, CA where they were blessed with the birth of their son, Richard Harold, and daughter, Lana Lovicy. They moved to the Chico, CA area where they raised their children, lived and worked for 34 years. Irene was a wonderful care-giver which prompted her to take the training to become an L.V.N. She was a great source of service and information to everyone.

After her husband's retirement, they moved to the Cressey, CA area to be closer to their son and his family. During the summer months, Irene loved to go to the baseball parks and watch her four grandchildren's games, and then in the winter months to watch them play either football or basketball. Irene discovered the excitement and joy of genealogy, where she researched and recorded her ancestry and then she shared her knowledge and skills by teaching many others how to trace their family lineage. Irene enjoyed having beautiful flowers in her garden, her favorites were: camellias, roses and many varieties of iris. She loved watching the butterflies that were attracted to her garden and she created many needlepoint pillows and wall hangings depicting them.

Irene is survived by a sister, Evelyn Davis; a brother, Robert Scott and wife Judy; her son, Richard and wife Kathie; four grandchildren, Kord, Stacie, Derek, and Brooke; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years and her daughter, Lana.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2008 at 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 5554 N. Winton Way, in Atwater, CA with former bishop, Merril Boothe officiating. The viewing will be held from 10:00-10:45 a.m. that morning. Irene is in the special care of Stratford Evans Merced Funeral Chapel. Interment will occur the following week in the family plot of the Annis (Idaho) Little Butte Cemetery, with arrangements being handled by the Eckersell Funeral Home in Rigby, Idaho.
