Jacqueline Carleta Rose (Sims, Stone, Arnold) Esrey Obituary
JACQUELINE CARLETA ROSE (SIMS, STONE, ARNOLD) ESREY Jacqueline Carleta Rose (Sims, Stone, Arnold) Esrey: Passed away on October 18, 2015 at home from Pulmonary Fibrosis. She made her peaceful transition surrounded by family. Jackie was born in Talala Oklahoma in Rogers County, the oldest of 4, to Jack and LaVelle Sims, on July 19, 1934. In 1942 her parents moved the family to the Southern California town of La Habra in Orange County where she grew up and attended Fullerton High School. When Jackie was almost 16 she eloped to Reno and married her first love Leverett (Rocky) Stone, age 22. At 17 she had her first child Tina then Brad eleven months later. She then divorced and a year later married Bill Arnold. Together they had two children Bill and Jack, who died when he was only five months old. While raising her children, Jackie worked as a waitress at Nacho's in La Habra and Sandy's Casita in Brea. In 1960 she became a Realtor in La Habra. In 1963 she and her husband Bill bought the La Habra Tastee Freeze and ran it till they sold it in 1970. They moved to Lakehead California by Lake Shasta, where her Sister Fern and parents owned a campground. In 1973 her family eventually settled in Oroville, where her brother and his family lived, and Jackie continued her work as a Realtor. While married to her third husband Bill Esrey, they moved to Sacramento for 5 years, then back to Oroville. While there she joined Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and was active for 15 years. She and Bill loved traveling. They hitched their trailer up and traveled all over the country for many years, visiting 48 states. Jackie valued friendships and would always make it a point to stop and see old friends that had moved to other parts of the country. She and Bill even went to an Esrey family reunion in Canada once where they did not know anyone. Along their travels they found the Fountain of Youth (FOY) RV Park in Nyland, Ca near the Salton Sea. From 2002 on they spent every winter there. They loved it and made friends from all over the world. 2010 was a difficult year, Jackie's husband Bill of 28 years died while at FOY and she was diagnosed with Pulmonary Fibrosis. Jackie later became companions with Buzz Wicht, of Santa Rosa, that she met at FOY. For the past 5 years they traveled (completing her 50 states traveled), continued to visit FOY, and enjoyed the love and joy of each other's company. Jackie was a devout Christian and member of Foothill Community Church, where she belonged to the Kindred Spirits. Jackie kept a monthly prayer list of friends, family and others that she prayed for. She donated to the churches Care and Share food program and loved helping her neighbors with errands. She was a social butterfly loving parties and people. She had lots of friends including her lifelong "Rat Pack", "Yak Yak" and "Dirty Dozen" friends! Jackie will be missed by many for her love of life, kindness, loyal friendships and being an amazing Mom, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt and friend! Jackie is survived by her three children and their spouses, Tina and Jan Bratcher, Brad and Jean Arnold, Bill and Karen Arnold, her siblings, Tom Sims, Fern Sims and Mary Bowen as well as 6 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and her longtime companion Buzz. Jackie's Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 5th at 4:00pm at Foothill Community Church, 475 Foothill Blvd. Oroville, Ca 95966. A reception will follow. Memorial contributions can be made to Foothill Community Church or The Oroville Veterans Memorial Park @ PO Box 2586 Oroville, Ca 95965 or online www.orovilleveteransmemorialpark.org.
