JAMES ELMER JONES

James Elmer Jones, a resident of the Yuba-Sutter area for 50 years, passed away on January 23, 2008 at The Rideout Memorial Hospital in Marysville, Calif. He was 83 years old. James was born November 2, 1924 in Chico, Calif.

James was a graduate of Chico High School, Class of 1942 and a graduate of the Colorado School of Mines. He served in World War II in the U.S. Army from Feb. 1943 to Jan. 1946. James is the retired owner of Ralph's Glass Service of Marysville where he worked for 20 years, and a Dredger for Gold Mining Companies in South America. He worked in the mining industry for 35 years.

James is survived by his wife of 42 years, LaVerne Jones of Yuba City, Calif.; son, Stewart Cherry of Modesto, Calif.; daughters, Kim Whitley of Auburn, Calif. and Charlotte Murphy of Yuba City, Calif.; a sister, Ruby Flock of Homedale, Idaho; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandson. He was preceded in death by his son, James A. Jones and his sister, Muda Hooper.

Memorial Services will be held at the Ullrey Memorial Chapel at 817 Almond St., Yuba City, CA on Friday, April 4, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. Private Inurnment will take place at Sutter Cemetery in Sutter, CA.
