JILL KORTIE With great sadness we announce the passing of Jill Kortie on Wednesday January 17, 2018 as the long and courageous battle against breast cancer came to an end. Jill will be remembered by her sisters Vicki Keith (Sam) and Esther Kortie; their children Allison Pritchard (Shane), Ashley Pritchard (predeceased), Brandon Keith (Jamie), Melinda Lockie (Perry) and Sean Alto (Shawnna) as well as several great nieces and nephews and many dear friends and colleagues. Jill was born in Crescent City, CA on March 24, 1951 to Howard and Barbara Kortie. She attended St. Joseph's Elementary and Del Norte County High School. Her teaching career spanned Del Norte County High School, Hamilton High School, Chapel International American School of Brazil, Center for Alternative Learning and Fairview High School in Chico, CA, a teacher by profession and a teacher in life. Her students remember her for her kindness, her quick wit and sense of humor, her influence and inspiration earning her numerous awards including Teacher of the Year Hamilton High 1997 and induction into Glenn County Office of Education Hall of Fame 2009. Jill loved traveling, spending a memorable two years in Sao Paulo, Brazil teaching English. She made great friendships and was able to see much of South America during this time with a yearning to return. She was fiercely independent and generous with her time and her resources; a peacemaker. She loved her family & friends, gardening, a good book, and a lover of animals great and small.
