Joan Ketcham Taylor Obituary
JOAN KETCHAM TAYLOR Joan Tuthill Ketcham Petersen Taylor (born 3/19/1930 in Norfolk, Virginia) passed away after a short illness on August 30, 2014 very peacefully, due to the loving care of her family, the Windsor Care Center, and Enloe Hospital's incredible 5th floor staff. Joanie was treasured by her extended family of children (Sally Wheeler, Dave/Patti and Al/Ann Petersen, Diane/Rob Puckett), grandchildren (Stefan/Megan, Erick/Ruth and Austin and Andie Petersen, Reagan/Jere Kemper, Darcy Cooper and Oz Puckett, Rachel/Brent Whitten, and Joseph and Jamison/Sara Wheeler) and great-grandchildren (Colter, Carolyn, Brighton, Ensley, Juliana, Bryce, Merrit, Bailey and Bristol), as well as the love of her life, Harold "Pete" Petersen, and her wonderful brother and his family (Fred/Pat Ketcham). Her bright, adventurous spirit was expressed through her passion for invention, languages, travel, opera, playing the piano, the outdoors, and environmental preservation. Joanie's life was multi-faceted; she grew up in a Navy family during WWII, and coped with early hearing loss. She successfully forged forward as an adult, earning a Master's in Counseling Psychology and MFCC, and working for the CA Dept. of Social Services. Upon retirement in 2002, she moved to Chico, took up tai chi, studied Spanish, hiked, biked, traveled and enjoyed her family and friends, whom she deeply valued. She was well known as a devoted companion to Jargon, her wonderful black Lab, a retired guide dog. A celebration of Joanie's life is planned at a later date. Contributions in her memory can be made to the Peg Taylor Center, 124 Parmac, Chico, 95926. Arrangements entrusted to the Neptune Society of No CA Chico Branch.
