JOE CARLOS Joe Furtado Carlos was born in Fayal, Azores Islands on July 11, 1935 to Antonio and Belmira Da Rosa Carlos. He was one of three sons. Joe and his twin Tony immigrated to Auburn, CA in December of 1959 and worked on a fruit ranch. He met Geraldine Dias at a Portuguese dance in Newcastle in 1961. He moved to Chico in 1962 and married Geraldine in May of that year. Joe started working at age 12 and worked hard all his life. He began farming on his own in 1969. He loved to work and also enjoyed coffee with his friends each morning. Joe enjoyed going to the Portuguese festas and calling the Chamarita. He was a great dancer! He and Geraldine went on many trips but lately his favorite was Reno. Joe was a member of the Butte County Farm Bureau, Blue Diamond Growers, U.P.P.E.C., Luso American, Chico Portuguese Club and St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. His survivors include his wife of 53 years, Geraldine Carlos; two sons, Steven (Susie) Carlos, Robert (Summerle) Carlos; four grandchildren, Elizabeth, Joey, Josie and Jason Carlos; twin brother Tony Carlos and brother, John (Angelina) Carlos; and many nieces and nephews.
