1930 - 2011 Obituary Condolences

John was born November 11, 1930 in Potlatch, Idaho to Roscoe and Flora Tinnel. John joined the Navy in 1949 and served on the USS Charr and the USS Diodon Submarines for 4 years. First he was a torpedo man and later a cook.

John worked 40 years in the meat business and retired in 1992 working for Purity Stores, Wentz Market and Holiday Market. John restored a 1949 Ford convertible. John and Cathie belonged to the Ford V/8 Club and the Drifter Car Club in Chico.

John was preceded in death by three sons, Russell, John and Shayne Tinnel; a sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Stan Smith; and two brothers, Dale and Robert Tinnel.

John leaves his wife, Cathie; a sister, Shirley Normington of Pot Latch, Idaho; brother, Jerry (Joyce) Tinnel of Lewiston, Idaho; daughter, Cheryl (Roger) Shumway of Owego, New York; sister and brother-in-law, Caleen and Jim Spence of Oroville and Caleb and Karen Chinn of Paradise; daughters, Becky (James) Van Sickle of Cottonwood; Shawn (Robert) Pagano of Jackson, Cindy Tinnel of Chico, Karla (Ken) Kimrey of Chico; sons, Lynn Wilson and Patrick Denney. He also leaves behind many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Johnny will be missed by family, friends and his four house cats and five barn cats.

A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, September 29, 2011 at the Paradise Cemetery. After the service there will be a get together at the Paradise Recreation Center, 6626 Skyway, Paradise.
