John COLIN Senior Obituary
JOHN COLIN SENIOR Age 73 Ord Bend, California. On November 20, 2015, John C. Senior passed away at his home in Ord Bend, Glenn County, after fighting a year-long battle with lung cancer. He was greatly annoyed at being so ill and with respect to Welsh poet Dylan Thomas, "did not go gentle into that good night". He fought as hard and as long as he could. Thank you to Feather River Cancer Center for excellent care and support. John was born on November 7, 1942 in Huddersfield, Yorkshire, England to Colin and Bessie Senior. WWII was being waged at the time, and this had a large impact on the lives of all British citizens, young John included. John grew up with a love of aircraft and an ingrained distaste for wasting anything he thought may be edible or had value. He graduated Bristol College and became an aeronautical engineer, working with British Aerospace for 26 years prior to relocating to the United States. His employment took him all over the world where he worked with governments and corporations, and approached his varied assignments with "enthusiasm and good spirits". (Some say there was a clandestine side to his operations but this has never been proven.) In 1987 John came to the United States to accept the position of Director of Engineering for Hawaiian Airlines, and then relocated in 1990 to the Seattle area to work for Tramco aviation services in Everett, Washington. He thought he had found the ideal home for life in West Seattle and vowed never to move again. However, the best laid plans of mere mortals are often unexpectedly changed, and when the opportunity to head south to a family farm in Ord Bend, California arose, John and his wife, April relocated in 1995. John was the Secretary of the Ord Bend Volunteer Fire Department until the year before his death, and was one of the infamous egg-flippers (no spatula needed!) for the popular Pancake Breakfast held each year on Super-Bowl Sunday. (Come early, there is a line.) He also had a love-hate relationship with golf and enjoyed spending time at the Glenn Golf and Country Club where Corey Goodwin the patient pro tried as hard as he could, but still on occasion had to ask Mr. Senior to please refrain from defacing the pristine edges of the sand trap on Hole 8 with his wedge. John leaves in England his daughter Rebecca Foster (husband Trevor) and son Andrew Senior, and five grandchildren Laura, Myles, Lloyd, Jemima and Imogen. In Ord Bend, he leaves his wife April Richards-Senior, step-sons Brian Richards (wife Corey) and Andrew Richards (Renee), and three adored grandchildren Anthony, Lauren and Liam. He was deeply loved and will be missed by all. A memorial celebration is planned for Friday, December 4, 2015 at 3:30 pm at the Ord Bend Community Hall. Refreshments including a light dinner will be provided. If you like, a donation to the Ord Bend Volunteer Fire Department or the Hamilton High School FFA will be appreciated in lieu of flowers.
