John David Smith Obituary
JOHN D. SMITH John David Smith aka Dave or JD went to be with the creator on 2/23/2017. He was born in Oroville on Oct. 29, 1927 to Elmer and Eva Smith. He was the 3rd of 10 children. He served proudly in the Korean War as Staff Sargent. He was a logger by trade. He was a proud member of the Tyme Maidu Tribe Berry Creek Rancheria. He belonged to several organizations, the veterans, Friends Feather River Nature Center, headed up the 1st. Salmon Ceremony for years and Chairman of California Autochthon Peoples Foundation. He was an amazing man. He loved watching the birds. He loved to walk around Oroville and across the Oroville Dam. He made jewelry out of bones, taught himself to make native baskets. He studied the native plants and herbs. He is survived by his wife Patricia as well as brothers Charles and Cecil. His sisters Cecelia Brock and Dorothy Ann Smith. His beloved niece Eva Smith who helped with his care. There are several other nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. He had two stepchildren and several step -grandchildren. There will be graveside services held at Oroville Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 5646 Lincoln Blvd. Oroville, Ca. On March 7th at 1:30 p.m.
