JOHN DUNCAN DEWAR John Duncan Dewar, a resident of Chico since 1989, passed away on May 1, 2017, following a long illness. John was born June 21, 1939 in Coronado, California. He was a graduate of Coronado High School ('57), served in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve in the 1960s, and obtained college degrees at CSU, Chico, where he earned both his Bachelor's degree and his Teaching Credential. John pursued a number of professions: He worked as a banker in San Diego and San Francisco; as a contractor building houses in Calaveras County; and as a teacher instructing students in woodshop and business math at Calaveras High School. He particularly loved traveling, especially by motorcycle, and held a membership in the San Diego BMW club. He traveled by motorcycle throughout the U.S., Mexico and Europe. In Chico, John served as a volunteer with Passages and enjoyed providing help as an Election Official at the polls on Election Day. Following retirement, he worked part-time for the California Tax Education Council. He is survived by his wife, Marion, his daughters Shelley Terrill and Leslie DeLong, his sister, Penny Wade, his half-sister, Diana Dewar, three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Arrangements are being handled by the Neptune Society. A private memorial will be held later this month. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Passages, the Peg Taylor Center or to the .
