John Patrick Nugent Obituary
JOHN PATRICK NUGENT July 11, 1931- May 23, 2018 A descendent of early California pioneer families, Pat was the first of two sons born to Joseph A. Nugent and Frances M Wojdacki in Oakland, California. He died today as the result of cancer. In his youth, he was a welterweight boxer and belonged to service clubs; Lions, Elks and Moose. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1950 and served as a tail gunner on an R B-50 aircraft. He married his nurse whom he met in a military hospital in 1953. They had been married for 46 years at the time of her death. He worked as an underground surveyor and enjoyed working at his Pioneer drift mine. He was a member of the Paradise Genealogical Society, the Butte County Historical Society, the Air Force Gunners Association, the Good Sam Club and Public Lands for the People. Pat loved the west, the rivers, streams and mountains; every aspect of it. A consummate reader, he enjoyed western history, mining, math puzzles, music from blue grass to Bach, target shooting and genealogy. He had a fascination for trajectory and made customized loads for his firearms. The last of his immediate family, Pat was preceded in death by his mother, Frances, in 1983; his brother, Tom, in 1984; his father, Joe, in 1992; his wife, Becky, in 1999 and a great grandchild in 2011. He is survived by his loving companion of sixteen years, Glennara Wright of Oroville; daughter Stephanie Nugent of Texas; son Stewart Nugent (Heidi) of Paradise; son Michael Nugent (Lauri) of Paradise; daughter Pam Robertson (Steve) of Texas; daughter Melissa Nugent of Paradise; granddaughter Lindsay Oxender (Tim) of Paradise; granddaughter Kayla Robertson of Berlin, Germany; granddaughter Christa Robertson of Texas; grandsons Bradley Nugent, Dustin Lindstrome, Kyle Nugent, Chris Nugent, Justin Nugent, Trevor Nugent and ten great grandchildren; nephews John Nugent of Oklahoma; Joe Nugent (Beth)of Oregon; Tom Nugent (Valerie) of Chico; Greg Nugent of Oregon; Randy Hickman of Kansas; niece Rebecca Padden of Canada; cousins Robert Nugent (June) of Magalia; Wesley Nugent (Beatrice) of Yuba City. To these, he was considered an uncle or step dad; Mark Nugent (Jeanne) of Folsom; Karen Brown (Larry) of Paradise; Camille Williams (Bill) of Oroville; Mitchell Nugent of Oroville deceased 2014 and their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. A funeral service is planned for Sunday, June 3, 2018, at 1pm at the Chapel of the Pines Funeral Home in Paradise, CA. Visitations are from 10am till 12pm. Burial will be at the Paradise Cemetery on Monday, June 4th at 11am. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Paradise Hospice.
