Obituary Condolences

Joseph D. Cunha, 80, of Capay, passed away peacefully on Easter Sunday in his home surrounded by all of his loving family. He was born on March 21, 1930 in Los Banos to Frank and Maria Cunha.

When Joe was in the fourth grade, his family moved to Salinas where they established the F. J. Cunha Dairy. He was drafted into the Army and served three years in Germany during the Korean War. On June 3, 1956, he married the love of his life, Rosalie Pimentel. Joe spent over twenty years as a partner with his family in the Cunha Dairy. In 1976, he realized his lifelong dream of owning his own dairy, moving his family to the Capay District. He was an active member of the community, a member of St. Dominic's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.

Joe loved God and his fellow man. His favorite things included spending time and holding hands with his beloved Rosalie, playing games with his children and grandchildren, vacations with family and friends, bird watching and dessert. He loved to make people laugh and always believed in thinking positive.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Rosalie; daughters, Karen (Paul) Betenbaugh and JoAnn (Jeff) Boone of Capay; and sons, Joe (Stephanie) Cunha of Gridley and Jeff (Carol) Cunha of Capay; his grandchildren, Roy and Corina Boone, Marc Betenbaugh, Kelsey Cunha, Sarah Boone, Kyle Cunha, Tessa Betenbaugh, Ashley Boone and Kirk Cunha.

Services will be held on Friday, April 9, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Dominic's Catholic Church.
