Joyce Marie Good Obituary
JOYCE MARIE GOOD 2-12-1938 to 12-11-2017 Joyce Good passed away on 12-11-2017 after a long illness, surrounded by family and friends. In her life, she was a great mother/grandmo-ther, pianist, business woman and a devout Christian. She was born in Lampi, Missouri to Frank and Martha Perkins, the 4th of 6 children. The family immigrated to California in 1942 and she spent her childhood growing up in Oroville. After graduating from high school in 1955, she married and had 3 children. They lived in Sacramento until 1967 and then moved back to Oroville. Joyce worked at Pacific Coast Producers as a lab technician for 23 years. She also owned and operated 2 residential care homes for many years and even after their closure, advocated for the disabled for the rest of her life. Joyce moved to the Reno area about 30 years ago where she owned and operated 2 convenience store/gas stations. In her later years, she found that she missed her hometown of Oro-ville and moved back about 1.5 yrs ago where her roots were deep and her family and friends wide. Joyce felt great joy attending the church her parents founded, the Free Trinity Church (C Street), and was the principal pianist there. Nothing gave her more pleasure than playing and singing gospel music. C Street Church was the place where, at the age of 12, she was called to the piano, by God, with no former training, to play after the church lost their former pianist. Within 2 weeks, she could play almost every song the congregation could sing. She played by ear for the rest of her life as an accomplished pianist. She also professionally sang in a gospel trio with Joyce Mayfield and La-verne Herrick performing in many local venues. There were also appearances on the Morris Taylor Show on television and on the local radio. Joyce is survived by her children: Cynthia Bradshaw Stewart, Alvin Bradshaw, Gregory Bradshaw, Vernon Campbell, David Thornton; grandchildren: Graham Bartlett, Frankie Bradshaw, Donevin Bradshaw; great grandchild: Leilani Bartlett; brothers and sisters; William Perkins, Nancy Means, Linda McElhaney. Services are being held at Scheer Memorial Chapel. Viewing will be on Thursday 12/14 from 4-8, funeral on Friday 12/15 at noon.
