JOYCE MARIE KEMPER, DC Joyce Marie Kemper passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family and her cat Jack. Much gratitude for the excellent caregiving from Nephew Aaron Kemper, Brother Keith Matro and Enloe Hospice. She was born December 18, 1960 in a suburban Detroit hospital. She was 60. She was a fun-loving, very lovable sweet lady that gave a lasting impression on those who met her. She was very humorous right until the end as often she spoke out before thinking- occasionally to the embarrassment of others. She loved her many cats she cared for her entire life-even neighbors' cats. She was in the process of writing a children's book on all the cats she had since childhood. She graduated from Warren Cousino High School in 1978 attending undergraduate studies at a local community college where she met her future husband Gene Kemper in 1979. She earned her Doctoral degree in 1984 at Palmer College of Chiropractic, Davenport, Iowa. After graduating she moved to Northern California, eventually ending up in Chico where she married Gene Kemper in 1987. She really enjoyed caring for the house and loved cooking. In childhood she cherished cooking with her mother and kept many of her cookbooks. She especially enjoyed baking cookies and shipping them to relatives scattered across the nation during the holidays. She worked as a chiropractor with her husband, Gene Kemper, DC and was co-founder of Matro/Kemper Chiropractic in 1990 and retired in March, 2020 months early due to the uncertainty of COVID-19. She treated many patients, even animals as she was a Certified Veterinary Chiropractitioner. Over the years she volunteered as an usher at Bidwell Presbyterian Church, Chico Airshow, Enloe 2000 Foundation and Butte Humane Society. Her hobbies included Alpine and Nordic skiing, scuba diving, bicycling and gardening. She is survived by her husband, Gene Kemper, Brothers Keith Matro (Kim), Larry Matro (Tina), John Matro (Nancy) and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents John and Lucy Matro. Funeral arrangements are being held by Affordable Mortuary. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Butte Humane Society. The family will hold a private memorial service. You may send the family condolences at www.affordablemortuary.net
