1946 - 2010 Obituary Condolences

Karen Kay Madsen-Smith passed away in Chico on September 14, 2010. She was 63 years old. While born in Council, Idaho on October 16, 1946, Karen spent most of her adult life in California; 35 years in Oroville and most recently 15 years in Paradise.

She worked as a medical transcriptionist at Oroville Hospital for 26 years. During her retirement, she was an avid jewelry maker and gardener and enjoyed time spent with her eleven grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Curtis Smith of Paradise, CA; her brother, Gary Hoff and his wife, Shirley of Pocatello, ID, and her step-father, Glenn Ward of Caldwell, ID. She is further survived by four sons and one daughter: Donald Madsen and his wife, Diana of El Dorado Hills, CA, Jim Madsen and his wife, Debbie of Spanish Fork, UT, Kevin Madsen and his wife, Amanda of Ukiah, CA, Scott Smith and his wife, Jennifer of Barstow, CA, and Cynthia Caratenuto and her husband, Michael of Oroville, CA. She is predeceased by her parents, Paul and Pearl Hoff, formerly of Oroville, CA.

Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, September 21, 2010. There will be a viewing with the family at 11:30 a.m. and a memorial service at 12:00 noon at the Billie Road Building of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Paradise, CA. The address is 1275 Billie Road.
