Kathleen Jo Bernadett Obituary
KATHLEEN JO BERNADETT 1959-2017 Kathleen Jo Bernadett, 57, of Portland, Oregon, died at home surrounded by her children, on February 18, 2017, after a long battle with cancer. She was born to Annetta Patricia and Faustino Bernadett on April 9, 1959 in Portsmouth, Virginia. In youth she was known as "Joey" or "Jobird". In adulthood she went by "Bernadett". She grew up in Chico, California where she attended Notre Dame School and Chico High School. She spent her college years at UC Davis. Throughout her life, Bernadett was a healer, honoring and celebrating the sacred web of life in a myriad of ways. Sharing her father's love of medicine and service, she organized pro bono integrated healthcare services and community gardens in every town where she lived. She became a licensed massage therapist specializing in eastern treatment styles, including Zen shiatsu, Sotai, and Reiki. She studied with traditional midwives in Mexico and volunteered at birthing centers, supporting women and over a thousand babies through birth, lactation and beyond. Owning little, she opened her home to everyone and gave beyond measure. She was a devoted and doting mother and "Ibu", grandmother. She will be deeply missed by both family and friends, including her beloved children; Eloisa Behnoud, Hana Bernadett-Williams, Maya Bernadett-Peters, Miles Bernadett-Peters, grandchildren; Meekonuk Peters, Weekanashq Peters, Zoey Behnoud, mother Annetta Bernadett and seven brothers and sister; Michele, Faustino, Susan, Ann, Andrew, Michael, and Daniel. Her father Faustino Bernadett Sr. preceded Bernadett in death. A service will be held on Saturday, February 25, 10:45 at the River View Cemetery located at 0300 SW Taylors Ferry Road, Portland, OR, followed by a Life Celebration at Alberta Street Pub at 1036 NE Alberta St., Portland, OR from 12:00 to 3:30 pm.
