KATHLEEN PARKER Obituary
KATHLEEN PARKER A celebration of the life of Kathleen Parker will be held at the Durham Memorial Hall, on the Midway at Brown Street, from 12 noon to 1 p.m., on Sunday, October 21, 2012. Family, friends, and members of the community are invited to attend and share written stories about Kathleen's life and how she became a part of their lives. Kathleen passed away on Thursday, October 4, 2012 at Enloe Hospital. She was born December 18, 1932 in Bloomer, Wisconsin to Lloyd and Berthella Baker. She was raised in Elma, WA, where she graduated from Elma High School in 1951. In 1949, she married Lewis Parker in Montesano, WA at the Methodist Church. While living in Livermore, CA, Kathleen was active in the women's auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and headed the auxiliary chapter in 1965 and 1966. She attended Laney Trade School in Oakland, and received certification as a linotypist and lithographer. After moving to Durham in 1968, Kathleen became an active member of the Durham Grange and enjoyed participating in their frequent local dances and those put on by other Grange chapters in nearby towns. Kathleen was active in the Durham business community in a number of ways: first as a co-owner of a small almond farm operation; then in a small home business selling picture frames imported from Mexico; and finally, as a co-owner of Durham's only gas station - Parker's Corner - which she ran with her husband, Lewis and son, David for 14 years, beginning in 1996. She is survived by her husband, Lewis Parker of Durham; four sons, John of Sacramento, Marvin and daughter-in-law, Madglyn of Brookings, OR, David and daughter-in-law, MaryJo of Chico, Gary and daughter-in-law, Rene of Fernley, NV; 9 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. Donations may be made to the Durham Volunteer Fire Dept. or Durham Grange, in care of Brusie Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.brusiefh.com.
